Among the animals thriving in the White lake area is the chamois. It is one of the emblems of the fauna of the Vosges mountains. It is the smallest species among caprines, the group of mouflons and ibex. Adult males measure approximately 4,5 ft (130 cm) from snout to tail and some 2,5 ft (75 cm) at the withers. The Vosges mounts are also home to the Kestrel falcon and an increasing number of wild boars.
