Home to prisoners during both world wars

The Archipelago of the Chausey Islands, opposite Granville in Normandy, is flooded with visitors every year. During World War I, its occupants were 300 German and Austro-Hungarian prisoners confined for three years on Grande Île. They were ordered to build a washhouse and renovate the little local school. The day after June 6, 1944, the Daisy Mae Sgraggs bomber crashed on the Chausey Islands. The American survivors were imprisoned on the main island before being sent to the mainland after a month.
