The Explorers
The island of Hiva Oa in the Marquesas is crossed by a mountain range whose highest point is Mount Temetiu (3904ft/1190m). The main village, Atuona, located in the back of Taaoa Bay or Bay of Traitors, is the capital of the South Marquesas. The bay, in the center of which sits Motu Hanakee, offers a very protected anchorage appreciated by navigators.
