In the 16th century, several Genoese towers were to be built on the Agriate coast of Corsica to complete the monitoring and defense system of the Gulf of Saint-Florent. Finally, only one emerged according to the plans of the architect Giacomo Palearo, a fortification specialist. It sits on the point of La Mortella since 1564.
