Since its renovation in 2011, the Cité du Train gradually emphasized evolution mechanisms and technical innovations in steam, diesel, and electric energies. A permanent exhibition entitled Les Quais de l'Histoire (The Platforms of History) features more than sixty locomotives from 1844 to the present day. The evolution of French society appears between the lines through the materials and images displayed at the Cité du Train in Mulhouse.
