Hippos underwater
0
0
Adapted to an aquatic life, hippos can remain totally immersed for about five minutes. They have a common ancestor with cetaceans and their lungs appear similar to those of whales. They are also able to close their ears and nostrils to prevent water from entering when they dive. Ath birth, a hippo calf can remain underwater between one minute and 90 seconds.
