High cliffs and hiking trails

The Nesque Gorges form a canyon with some cliffs measuring more than 656 ft (200 m) in height. The Rocher du Cire, for example, overlooks the bed of the Nesque by more than 820 ft (250 m). The river here is often dry, its water scattering in the many cracks of the permeable limestone rock and feeding the karstic system of the Fontaine de Vaucluse. A tourist route opened up the Sault plateau in 1911 and punctuated with belvederes overlooks the gorges and follows its winding course. It is also possible to walk through the gorges via the GR9 hiking trail that crosses the site near the Saint-Michel chapel.
