Heterochromia usually is an inherited genetic evolution due to different colors and amounts of melanin in the iris. Called ‘iridium’ when it is complete and the individual has two eyes of two different colors as here, it can also be partial (or iridis) with distinct tones within the same eye. It is of genetic origin when it is congenital but can also be acquired during life following a trauma or a disease (glaucoma, uveitis).
