Metz Cathedral is the most glazed medieval religious building in the world. Hermann of Münster created its large rose window from 1381 till 1384. Above the rose, made up of an eight-pointed star, the Christ on the Cross, the Virgin, and Saint John. Apostles and prophets are standing below. Among a stone lacework, angels, equipped with censers, hover around the pinnacles. In 1764, the lower register stained-glass windows were moved when the first main portal was built.
