Heavy and light draft

A robust and powerful cold-blooded horse, the Percheron is the best-known draft horse in the world. There are two different subtypes in the breed: the heavy draft and the light draft. The heavy draft is a great limonier, capable of pulling heavy loads at a walking pace. This large and massive horse, with particularly muscular hindquarters and a more sloping rump, is intended for agricultural work, hauling, and heavy drafts. The light draft, also tall, has a lighter and sportier bearing, more uplifted in the middle and less down in the side. Its shoulders are flatter and its rump less sloping. Capable of pulling medium loads at high speed, it is intended for sport or prestige teamwork, fast towing, and leisure use.
