The vine (Vitis vinifera) is a woody, sarmentous plant native to Europe, although different species are found in Asia and America. Its deciduous leaves resemble small palms and are between 15 and 20 cm long. They are divided into three toothed lobes and are referred to as ‘cordiforme’ (heart-shaped). The plant can withstand temperatures down to -4°F (-20°C), however, frost is a threat to the buds, especially in spring.
