With an average altitude of 1,863ft (568m), Corsica is already the highest of the western Mediterranean islands. It also has around 120 peaks over 6,561ft (2,000m) located on the axial chain and its foothills. The Corsican high mountain is divided into four ranges of decreasing altitude from the north-west to the south-east of the island : the Monte Cinto, the Monte Rotondo, the Monte Renoso and the Monte Incudine ranges.
