Sur un vieux gréement, Les haubans sont disposés de part et d'autre du mât, il s'agit de cordage épissés et non de câbles d'acier. Les haubans sont disposés sous forme d'échelle utilisée par les gabiers pour monter aux gréements. Ils ne tiennent pas le mât sur toute sa hauteur mais par tronçon. Chaque sommet de tronçon présente une plateforme, la hune, ou viennent s'ancrer les haubans.
