Harvesting and conservation of fodder

As grass is an important part of cattle feed, forages are harvested and stored in different ways for winter consumption. They can be mown and then dried on the meadow before harvesting, like hay and straw. The forages can also either be wrapped (kept at a more or less dry stage and protected from air in a plastic film) or ensiled (stored after grinding in a silo and preserved by acidification in the absence of oxygen).
