The Cité du Train-Patrimoine SNCF is more than just a railway museum; it is an integral part of French history. The French have always been very fond of trains. Was it perhaps because it was the first to take them on holiday from 1936 onwards? The European Union has made it possible to harmonise the rules on train safety and track signalling. It has also helped to finance “corridors” for high-speed lines to facilitate travel throughout Europe and better connect peripheral regions.
