Hand casting technique

For its urban furniture lines, the GHM foundry favours cast iron, a solid material that is resistant to corrosion and thermal shocks. Steel, stainless steel, and aluminium are also machined and protected from ageing and impact. Casting is always a spectacular moment. The molten cast iron (2,552°F to 2,732°F or 1,400°C to 1,500°C) is transported from the furnace a few metres in a refractory ladle before being poured into the moulds through the pouring hole. The liquid metal fills the mould up to the top of the gas vent, which is then ignited.
