The Tellure mining park is a unique site in Alsace. Its silver vein, discovered by Collin Schwartz, has existed since 1549 and triggered a mining rush in the region in the 16th century. In the Middle Ages, the lords already minted money from silver extracted in the area. The working conditions were particularly difficult for the men, women, and young children digging the mines. At the end of the 18th century, floods drowned the tunnels and halted the exploitation, throwing hundred of families into precariousness.
