Half-timbered houses' secrets
0
0
The half-timbered houses of Riquewihr date, for the most part, from the Renaissance. Those of the Middle Ages are less numerous because many were destroyed throughout conflicts and replaced over time. Conrad Ortlieb's house dates from 1574. It rests on the 13th-century city wall and consists of several buildings surrounding an interior courtyard. It shelters a well dating back to 1576. Riquewihr's houses sometimes reveal other secrets brought to light during work. In 1999, remarkable painted joist ceilings were discovered.
