Along with Strasbourg's Cathedral, Mont Sainte Odile is the other emblematic Catholic site in Alsace. This high place of pilgrimage attracts nearly 750,000 visitors, either tourists or believers, each year. It stands at an altitude of 2,506 ft (764 m) in the heart of Alsace and has served as a refuge for Alsatians for centuries. Yet, Mont Sainte Odile is home to only a few individuals responsible for maintaining the sanctuary's activities. There are six persons, two priests and four sisters, living on the premises.
