The ultramarine lorikeet lives preferably on the wooded ridges of the Ua Huka island in the Marquesas between 2296 and 3280ft (700 and 1000m) of altitude but it is also found in banana trees and plantations of coconut palms or mango trees in coastal areas. It nests in the cavities of trees or the shells of coconuts.
