Located on the Mediterranean coast of the Var department at the crossroads of Africa and Europe, the Salins d'Hyères play an important role throughout the year for avifauna of very diverse biological and geographical origins. Since the start of the ornithological monitoring, 312 species have been observed on their premises. This total includes both sedentary birds for which the Salins d'Hyères constitute a biotope favorable to their entire biological cycle, as well as migratory species that use the salt marshes as a stopover.
