On the southern shore of the Lac du Der-Chantecoq, the Giffaumont Champaubert water sports station is often populated by birds, both in summer and winter. Black-headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus), Barn Swallows (Hirundo rustica), Pygmy Gulls (Hydrocoloeus minutus) or Common Terns (Sterna hirundo) take advantage of the infrastructure to land. Great Cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) and their spectacular dives can be seen more in the Southern Basin, one of the lake’s fishing areas, where pike, trout, pike-perch, perch, and carp are present in large numbers.
