Caribou hunting has always been an important resource for the Inuit, who are now forced to travel longer and longer to track down the increasingly rare herds. In the open tundra area, two hunting processes prevailed : bow hunting on a lookout wall and qajaq hunting at crossing points and fords. But in both cases, the role of the watchman was essential to spot the animals.
