The 'Broody hen' watches over the entrance to the mangrove-bordered estuary of Hienghène in the north-west of Grande Terre, New Caledonia. With the 'Sphynx', another rock with an evocative silhouette, it stands a stone guard on each side of the bay formed by the common mouth of the Henghiène and Tanghène rivers.
