The beluga – from the Russian word meaning white – or Delphinapterus leucas is a cetacean from the cold waters of the Arctic Ocean. It usually moves in groups of two to ten individuals. Sociable and curious, it often looks out of the water and can move its head thanks to its flexible neck rare in cetaceans. Its sophisticated sonar allows it to navigate in the labyrinth of submerged ice channels under the pack ice.
