Focus on the coconut crab's legs
2
0
The coconut crab is a cephalothorax decapod with ten legs, only six of which are clearly visible. The first pair is equipped with large claws which it uses to break coconuts or lift objects up to 61.7lbs (28kg). The second and third pairs are used for locomotion. The fourth pair is generally folded under its shell and so is the tiny fifth one. Its tendency to curl its tail under its abdomen gives the illusion that its body is round whereas it rather has an 8 shape.
