Great egret waiting for a prey
1
0
At dusk and at dawn, the great egret can often be found waiting motionless near a shallow water point until a prey comes close enough to catch it. Then it spears it with its long, sharp bill which it uses as a spear. This elegant heron feeds mainly on fish, frogs, small mammals, and occasionally insects and small reptiles.
