Hay varias diferencias morfológicas entre,los machos y las hembras del gran pelícano blanco. La primera es el tamaño. La hembra es notablemente más pequeña. La hembra tiene un pico más corto. En la temporada de reproducción, el macho tiene la piel rosada, como se observa en la foto. Tanto el macho como la hembra son similares, pero la hembra es más pequeña y tiene una piel facial de color naranja más brillante en la temporada de reproducción, y el macho tiene la piel facial de color rosáceo.
