The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Its total length is about 1.7 miles or 2.7 km. It was initially designed by engineer Joseph Strauss, an Americal structural engineer of German descent, in 1917. It has been declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World in 1994 by the American Society of Civil Engineers.
