Glacial lake

Corsica reaches high altitude levels. More than a hundred peaks rise to more than 2,000 m (6,600 ft). This high altitude and the frequent heavy rainfall resulted in the creation of glaciers on the island about 20,000 years ago, during the great Quaternary glaciations. The ice melted over the next millennia with the warming of the Earth, giving way to 40 glacial lakes. The lake Bettaniella (on the shot) is ice-covered about 7 months a year.
