Red ocher is a clayey and siliceous earth colored by natural red iron oxides (PR102) used as pigments since prehistoric times. Natural red ocher deposits are rare, and it is usually obtained artificially by calcining yellow ocher (yellow iron oxide) through a process producing synthetic red ocher (PR101).
