ATHENAS is a wildlife conservation center created in April 1987 in the commune of L’Étoile (Jura) to save, cure and rehabilitate wildlife specimens in order to release them into their natural environment. Its action is supported by 285 volunteers in 11 departments of central and eastern France. Since its inception, the center has taken in 67 lynxes, either orphans or victims of road collisions, animal trafficking and poaching and released 21, many of which were the first lynxes in Europe to be tracked. Gilles Moyne, seen here preparing a telemetry tracking device, was the co-founder and then the president of the center for a long time, before becoming an employee of the association.
