Gigantic mouth of the Manta ray
2
0
Despite the impressive size of its mouth, rectangular and in a terminal position on its flattened body, the Manta ray feeds mainly on plankton, crustaceans and only occasionally small fish. Its lower jaw is equipped with hundreds of tiny teeth which are not used for feeding but can distinguish the different species. It directs its food to its mouth thanks to its cephalic fins.
