Gestation and weaning of Przewalski foals
0
0
The gestation in Przewalski horses lasts 11 months. The mare gives birth - at night to avoid predators - to a single foal at a time which rises on its legs an hour after birth and is able to move quickly after a few days. Independent from birth and weaned at the age of 6 months, the foals are opportunistic and feed on the mares' milk without creating any emotional bond.
