Geomorphology of Maré Island

The carbonate platform of Maré Island consists in a 95% rhodolite limestone formation above which a reef crown in the form of a peripheral bead has developed. The morphology of this crown gives the island its raised atoll shape. Its internal and external flanks are covered with a constructed or biodetritic reef cladding.
