Winter frost

Global warming is already responsible for the recurring winter thawing of 14,800 lakes around the world, according to a recent study published in the “Nature Climate Change” journal. Lakes are diversely affected by rising temperatures, depending on their own characteristics (e.g. their depth), geographical aspects (e.g. their altitude) and climatic qualities (e.g. snow cover, precipitation, wind, etc.). Very deep (301 feet / 92 metres) and located at an altitude of 3,926 feet (1,197 metres), not far from the Super-Besse resort in Auvergne, Lake Pavin is only slightly impacted by this intermittent freezing phenomenon.
