Gambas or crevettes?
0
0
Difficult to distinguish the different varieties of gambas (king prawns) or crevettes (prawns) on the stalls of the Fish Market of Trouville-sur-Mer in the Calvados department. The terms gambas and crevettes are, in any case, common, non-scientific names - called vernacular - used to designate in a general way certain decapods without claws of the crustacean family. Gambas was introduced into French from the Catalan gambes - and not the Spanish camaron - and generally refers to large prawns of the Aristeidae type.
