Le Lilas est un arbre de la famille des Oléacées.
Si on connaît bien ses fleurs odorantes en épi dont la couleur va du blanc au rose et au violet, on prend rarement le temps de l’observer après sa floraison.
Les fruits sont des petites capsules ligneuses, coriaces, ovoïdes et pointues au sommet, qui deviendront marron à maturité. Les capsules s’ouvriront alors pour laisser s’échapper les graines.
