From the railway to the crisis

First transported on the backs of mules to Marseille, the ochres of Luberon experienced a dazzling development at the beginning of the 1880s after the establishment of the railway in the Pays d'Apt in 1876. Open-air quarries, underground galleries and shafts, as well as factories multiplied until 1929, when the sector significantly suffered from the effects of the world economic crisis.
