The daily life of the greater flamingo (Phœnicopterus roseus) is punctuated by eye-catching postures. The stretching, relaxation, and contortions of the neck, the rotating movements of the head, and the care and smoothing of the plumage are usually comfort gestures. During the winter courtship displays, however, they lose their utilitarian vocation and become genuine seduction rituals.
