Orschwiller is located in the northeast of France, in the Lower-Rhine department in the Alsace region. It is dominated by the imposing mass of the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg on which it depended. Its name appears for the first time in 768, in a chart of King Pépin le Bref (the writ), in the form of Andovillare. The city is home to the 18th-century Saint Maurice church, listed as a historical monument. It is also close to the ruins of Oedenbourg and Petit-Koenigsbourg castles.
