Long considered a simple work tool and fell into disuse with the appearance of the automobile in the 20th century, hitching became fashionable again from the 1970s in the completely different form of recreational harnessed sport. It was only recognized by the French Federation of Equitation in 1987. This recognition paved the way for the creation of the French Association of Horse Driving. The structure is responsible for discovering and developing the discipline, which remains less popular than the classic horse riding in France.
