From a convent to a media library

The conventual establishment of the Congregation of the Franciscans of Notre-Dame de Pitié in Deauville is bordered by Avenue de la République to the northwest. It consists of a chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame de Pitié, the Saint-Joseph Pavilion, and the Biesta-Monrival Pavilion as well as various convent buildings (cloister, refectory, dormitory). The shell of the buildings displays limestone rubbles and bricks hidden under a cement coating. The brick elements (buttresses of the facades, framing of the pointed openings, strips and roof cornices) contribute to the decoration of the elevations. The city of Deauville expressed its interest in acquiring the convent, the Bestia-Monrival pavilion, and the chaplaincy of the congregation of the Franciscan sisters in 2012 to carry out its museum-media library project.
