Put up for auction in 1975, the Domaine de Villarceaux was bought by the Charles-Léopold Meyer Foundation for the Progress of Man. In 1989, the Swiss foundation entrusted the estate to the Ile-de-France region through a 99-year long lease, on the condition that access to the estate would be free for the public. Since then, Villarceaux has undergone considerable work. The outbuildings of the Renaissance manor have been restored, as well as the Saint-Nicolas tower. The electricity of the Château du Haut has been upgraded and brought up to standard. Some of the furniture, which had been dispersed at the auction, was recovered and returned to its original location.
