Frangipani (Plumeria) are native to Central America (Mexico, Venezuela) and have been acclimatized in Asia, in sub-Saharan Africa as well as in all the tropical regions of the world and in particular the Pacific islands. In Nouméa the capital of New-Caledonia, they grow along with red flamboyant trees and coconut palms. In Melanesia and Polynesia, their flowers are used to make wreaths (lei) and necklaces.
