France’s most northerly vineyard
0
0
The Champagne region is subject to a double climatic influence, continental and oceanic. It therefore benefits from favourable sunshine in the summer as well as constant and moderate rainfall throughout the year. There is little variation in annual temperatures, with an approximate average of 51°F (11°C). As a result of global warming, the harvest takes place on average two weeks earlier than twenty years ago (late August-early September in 2020). The grapes are also less acidic, with more ripeness, and have a higher alcohol content (+0.8%). The Montagne de Reims (Reims Mountain) is the most northerly vineyard in France with 60 to 80 days of frost per year.
