The Grande Salle des Pôvres (Great Hall of the Poor) in the Hospices de Beaune is surmounted by a monumental structure with an inverted hull, itself covered with Trélazé slates. This exposed frame in oak paneling is crossed by polychrome beams coming out of gobblers, mouths of multicolored dragons evoking the monsters of hell. The spans are punctuated by small caricatures sculpted in the effigy of Beaunois bourgeois. Animal heads illustrating their respective faults accompany their faces.
