Around the town of Bach, in the Lot department, the Cloup d´Aural phosphate mines are a gateway to the Earth's past. They were exploited for the extraction of phosphate. This mineral served as a natural fertilizer before the arrival of chemical substitutes. The mines are now a photograph of the state of the Earth, depicting a time when clay and phosphate flow filled these chasms dug by a prehistoric tropical sea.
