Fortifications on the eastern flank

From the 14th century onwards, the successive conflicts of the Hundred Years’ War between France and England forced the construction of new fortifications on the eastern side of Mont-Saint-Michel. The fortress, defended by a few knights and men-at-arms loyal to the King of France, was thus reinforced by a stone wall flanked by several defensive towers. On several occasions and for almost 30 years, the Mont managed to resist the assaults of the English army.
