Built between 1722 and 1734 at an altitude of 5,282 ft (1,610 m), Fort du Randouillet dominates Fort des Têtes to which it is linked by Communication Y and provides protection. The fort was installed on the edge of the cliff to the east of the stronghold of Briançon. Its mission consisted in preventing the passage of enemy armies in the Durance valley or by the ridges of the Infernet.
